** Voted against hunters in a MAJOR TEST VOTE (16)
^ Congressional Sportsmen Caucus member (44)

SAOVA has carefully reviewed the voting records of those individuals receiving the endorsements of the two political organizations with such diametrically opposing views. We fault only five HumaneUSA PAC endorsements as errors. Representatives Tim Holden (D-PA17), Jerry Lewis (R-CA41), John McHugh (R-NY23), Ed Royce (R-CA40) and John Shimkus (R-IL19) can't be considered animal rightist voters under any reasonable criteria.

The remaining 47 politicians endorsed by both the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the HumaneUSA PAC illustrate the two organizations' different priorities. In the extreme case, sixteen (16) steadfast animal rightist voters, who ignored the NRA's and other sportsmen groups' concerted lobbying against Rep. Gallegly's 2003 anti-bear hunting bill, voting for that measure, had their reelections endorsed by the NRA. The balance of the 47 double endorsees supported most, if not all, of the organized animal rightists' other eight 2003-2004 measures.

The NRA's near-exclusive concern is Second Amendment gun ownership related. Politicians who supported its campaign finance position, assault weapon ban repeal, fought gun show purchase licensing, et al, appear to have had their anti-hunting, anti-animal ownership votes waived. While SAOVA's and NRA-PVF's well publicized, independent endorsements largely coincide, sportsmen and animal owners should take the precaution of checking SAOVA's recommendations for important differences. Anti-hunting, anti-animal owner HumaneUSA PAC has endorsed a total of 180 Democrats and 55 Republicans running for federal office. Don't be misled into thinking that the 47 politicians identified above are any less dangerous to your interests than all of them labeled NO! on this website or included here Full Anti's List.
